If you are looking for the perfect country accessory to accompany you on your city pursuits, this little clutch ticks all of the boxes!

This bag is swiftly becoming my new best friend, the soft feel of the cow hide is luxurious and the blue tassel sends off cowgirl vibes (I mean who secretly doesn’t want to be a cowgirl?), whilst the gold metallic spotting creates a sophisticated finish which makes this bag perfect for evening drinks in London or holiday’s abroad without leaving country roots behind.

On my recent trip to Thailand it was the first thing in my case and was easy to pair with my Bangkok city outfits and proved a perfect companion for cocktails on the beach.

As a country girl spending life in the London fast lane, you have probably figured by now I like to ensure a touch of the countryside is present within my city outfits, which is what has drawn me to this bag, and the wider Hicks and Brown range.

It was rather windy a few floors up in Bangkok’s Sky Bar at Sirocco!

The Hicks and Brown brand was born through the creativity of two  Suffolk sisters, Alice and Rosie. After leaving their country routes behind for jobs in London, the sisters would use their love of design and textiles to make clothes for themselves to wear. After receiving endless compliments they decided to share their talents by showcasing their products in a pop-up showcase at their local Suffolk Show in 2014 which proved a great success. A few years later, the sisters left London and returned to their countryside home to work on the brand, and the rest as they say, is history. Chatting with co-founder of Hicks and Brown, Alice Leet-Cook, is transpires a combination of both country and city is intended across their whole collection, their Suffolk Fedora proving a prime example. The range of colours makes these beauties fit for the fields and the skyscrapers. The Suffolk Fedora in Black with Guinea Feather Wrap is perfect for the city and is certainly one that will be on my Christmas wish list!

Talking about the clutch, Alice says is was designed to be versatile: “The metallic printed cow hide we use on this clutch bag is great in the evenings whilst the navy suede tassel softens this and enables it to be worn when and wherever.”

It’s not all about the looks though, I certainly don’t travel lightly, so a bag with the ability to fit all the necessities in is key. Without looking bulky, this bag is roomy enough to hold my phone, a small purse, my favourite lipstick, concealer, house keys and a small compact mirror… all the bare minimum daily essentials of course!

Alice agrees, she says: “We love the fact you can get all your essentials in it, phone, purse and some make-up to save lugging a large handbag around.”

The co-founder admits her favourite clutch bag is the Flamingo Cow Hide Clutch (also one for the Christmas list!). One side embraces the country with the cow hide pattern, whilst the other side is fit for the city, a plain Flamingo pink providing the base for the leather Hicks and Brown logo, finished off of course by a bright pink tassel, as Alice says: “you can never have enough pink”. If spots are more your thing, there’s a clutch for that too!

You may be thinking, why a clutch for an October must-have? Why not a jumper of a scarf? Well, I have personally enjoyed using this bag so much over the summer and I wanted to share its versatility with you guys. Of course we need to be prepared for a British winter (scarves, gloves and hats at the ready), but for October and throughout winter I will be adding a splash of sunshine into my outfit with my Acido Clutch. And with all of those Christmas parties around the corner we all need to be prepared with a bag to fit the occasion!

The bag is a steal at £45, but the clutch bag range starts at £40!

Before letting Alice return to her busy schedule, I also chatted to her about the story behind Hicks and Brown and what’s next for the brand.

Here is our interview in full:

The thing I love most about the Hicks and Brown Acido Gold Cow Hide Clutch Bag is its versatile look- it suits both city and country outings. Was that the initial idea for the bag? “Absolutely – in fact our whole collection is. The metallic printed cow hide we use on this clutch bag is great in the evenings whilst the navy suede tassel softens this and enables it to be worn when and wherever.”

What do you love most about the bag and do you have a favourite among the clutch bag range? “We love the fact you can get all your essentials in it, phone, purse and some make-up to save lugging a large handbag around. We have used ours lots this summer when guests at weddings, the perfect accompaniment to an outfit. Our favourite is the Flamingo Clutch – you can never have enough pink :).”

In which other products do you feel your combined influences of both country and city are apparent? “Our line of Fedora hats in particular, the dark brown colour is a huge hit for country lifestyles whilst the black, grey and maroon remain firm favourites for those in the city, paired with some heeled boots and a tailored jacket they become a completely different look.”

The brand has come a long way since the first pop up only three years ago, what would you put your success down to? “A lot of hard work – but put simply, it’s all about getting the name out there, and getting people wearing our products. Social media has a huge part to play in our growth. We also now stock our Fedora hats in over 35 stores across the UK (and drastically growing) so that has certainly helped spread the Hicks & Brown name further.”

With winter just around the corner, do you have any exciting products in the pipeline that you can tell us about? “Our Newmarket LUXE Quilted Jacket launches online shortly, made from a dry wax fabric making it water resistant, it features a fur trimmed hood. It’s designed by us and made in Suffolk – we can’t wait to show you!”

What’s next for Hicks and Brown? “We are looking to significantly develop the accessories side of our business as well as building on our men’s range.”
